Greenland allows entry. You must pay attention to a number of requirements and deadlines. See requirements and deadlines here.

Last updated: June 5th 2020

Greenland allows entry, but sets out a number of requirements for anyone wishing to enter the country.

Below you can see what you must pay attention to before departing from Greenland, test procedures, Sumut form, and how to proceed when arriving in Greenland.

Before departing from Greenland
If you reside in Greenland and travel abroad, please be aware that you do so at your own risk. If you are infected with COVID-19 during the stay abroad or are unable to provide the necessary documents at check-in, the return journey to Greenland will be at your own expense.

Please be aware that for short trips (one to five days) you must book the COVID-19 test, which will be performed in Denmark prior to returning to Greenland, before your departure.

Missing documentation at check-in
  • If you arrive at check-in without the email confirming a completed Sumut form and/or documents indicating a negative test, you will not be able to board the plane
  • Any additional costs for the stay will be at your own expense
  • You will be able to rebook your ticket for another date on which you are able to provide the necessary documents

If you test positive for COVID-19 close to your departure date
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 close to your departure date, you will not be able to board the plane
  • You will only be able to enter Greenland when you can provide a negative COVID-19 test
  • Any additional costs for the stay will be at your own expense
  • You will be able to rebook your ticket for another date on which you are able to provide the necessary documents

You must make note of current rules and guidelines in any country you will be visiting. We recommend you follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and sign up to "Danskerlisten," see more here: https://um.dk/en (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark)

    • Rigshospitalet — if you are a resident in Greenland
    • Your own doctor or via coronaprover.dk — if you are a resident in Denmark
    • Read more under 'Test procedure in Denmark'

Before traveling to Greenland

Arriving passengers who are residents outside of Greenland
  • Must provide an email confirming a completed Sumut form
  • Must provide documentation of a negative test result which must have been performed a maximum of five days prior to the departure

Note
The COVID-19 test must be performed a maximum of five days prior to the departure.

Test procedure in Denmark
You have two options regarding the COVID-19 test in Denmark.

As a resident in Denmark
If you have a NemID or a yellow health card, you must:
  1. Buy a ticket
  2. Book a test time and obtain written documentation of a negative test result. This must be provided at check-in.

You must book a time via your own doctor or via www.coronaprover.dk and then obtain written documentation of a negative test result on www.sundhed.dk

Due to the lab's response times, the test must be performed no later than four days prior to the departure, with the exception of Rigshospitalet from which you will receive an answer within two to three days.

  3. Complete the Sumut form. The confirmation for a completed Sumut form can be provided at check-in, either electronically or in print.

As a resident in Greenland
If you do not have a NemID or a yellow health card, you must be tested at Rigshospitalet, and you must:
  1. Buy a ticket
  2. Complete the Sumut form prior to the test booking because this will be used when you contact Rigshospitalet
  3. You must send an email to Rigshospitalet on corona.rigshospitalet@regionh.dk containing the following information:
    • Attach the confirmation email that you have received for the completed Sumut form
    • Name
    • Civil registration number
    • Phone number that works in Denmark
    • An active email address
    • Departure date

    • Consent
When sending the Sumut form to Rigshospitalet, you consent to Rigshospitalet sharing your test results with Air Greenland.

Air Greenland will be provided with your name, test result, and test ID. The list will be sent in a secure manner, and Air Greenland will delete the list after use.

Afterwards:
  1. Rigshospitalet will contact you to arrange a time and place for the test
  2. If they are unable to reach you, they will leave you a voicemail.

You will then have to contact Rigshospitalet yourself on +45 3545 6330 or corona.rigshospitalet@regionh.dk

When choosing this solution, Rigshospitalet will inform Air Greenland about the test result. This means that you will not have to provide documentation of a negative test result.

Requirements for the test result
If you have been tested somewhere other than Rigshospitalet, you must ensure that the written test result contains the following information:
  • "Tested for COVID-19." Note: It must not be an antibody test.
  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Test result

If you have been tested at Rigshospitalet, Air Greenland will have received your test result from a name list. Air Greenland will be provided with your name, test result, and test ID. The list will be sent in a secure manner, and Air Greenland will delete the list after use.

If your test result is positive
  • You must self-isolate immediately.
  • You cannot board the plane.
  • You will only be able to enter Greenland when you can provide a negative COVID-19 test
  • Any additional costs for the stay will be at your own expense
  • You will be able to rebook your ticket for another date on which you are able to provide the necessary documents

When will you receive the COVID-19 test result in Denmark?
  • The test result is ready three days after the test has been performed, regardless of whether you have booked a test yourself via coronaprover.dk or via Rigshospitalet

Note
Because the test must be performed a maximum of five days prior to the departure, you will be able to depart no later than five days after the test.

Example: If the test was performed on Monday, your departure day cannot be later than Friday

Foreign tourists and tests
Foreign tourists must book a test and obtain the test result themselves a maximum of five days before departure.

This is to ensure that they will have the time to perform a test in their own country and still be able to travel from Denmark to Greenland within five days.

About the Sumut form
The Sumut form is a document completed by you. It contains information such as:
  • Your itinerary

The confirmation email for a completed Sumut form will also be used as validation of entry to Greenland when booking the COVID-19 test via Rigshospitalet.
